Aston Martin Stands Firm on Alonso Defense, Rules Out Penalty Appeal

8 months ago By Sports Desk

The Aston Martin team maintains its firm position in defense of Fernando Alonso and insisted that it will not appeal the penalty that dropped the Australian from sixth to eighth at the end of the match. The team’s decision comes after Alonso was given a 20-second penalty for driving deemed “potentially dangerous” shortly before George Russell’s crash.

The two-time Formula 1 world champion was charged after applying unusual braking at turn six at Albert Park on the penultimate lap, causing Russell to lose his out-of-control Mercedes car to the crash. Despite the fact that the incident was considered racially motivated by the Racing Directorate, Alonso’s sanction was still valid.

A letter to fans, published online, from Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack expressed his full support for Alonso, highlighting his extensive knowledge and talent for the sport. Krack described Alonso as an experienced driver in Formula 1, with more than 20 years of experience and numerous world titles in various categories.

Despite the penalty, Alonso showed his skill and determination by finishing eighth in the race. Krack insisted Alonso was “using all the tools at his disposal” to maintain his position ahead of Russell and insisted the Spanish driver “will never put anyone in danger”.

Aston Martin’s decision not to appeal the allegation shows the team’s confidence in Alonso’s integrity and ability as a driver, as well as its belief that there was no intent to harm or endanger other competitors. While the penalty may have been disappointing for the team, Krack stressed the importance of accepting the race director’s decision and moving on.

Although the controversy is now on the back burner, the Aston Martin team is focused on preparing for future races and continuing to seek sustainable results. The Formula 1 season is long and full of challenges, and the team is determined to meet each challenge with determination and professionalism.

The next challenge for the team and Alonso will be the next phase of the tournament, where they hope to once again prove their worth and skill. With a resilient attitude and strong team spirit, Aston Martin is ready to face whatever the rest of the season brings.
