Live Updates: Recap of 2024 F1 Australian Grand Prix Qualifying Session

8 months ago By Sports Desk

The qualifying session for the 2024 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix was full of action and excitement, setting the stage for an exciting race on Sunday. Let’s take a look at the highlights of this crucial session that determined the grid for tomorrow’s race.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen showed his prowess by taking pole position with his first consecutive pole position of the season. The Dutchman dominated the session, pulling away from his rivals and showing impressive pace to win the grand prize.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished second on the grid after a close battle with Verstappen. Sainz showed determination and speed to bring a strong stance to Sunday’s race.

But things did not go smoothly for Verstappen and his team. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez was third on the grid at the start. However, a three-stage grid penalty for tripping Nico Hulkenberg in Q1 dropped him to sixth. This event was a huge setback for Perez and his team, but they still had a chance to compete on the podium.

As Verstappen and Sainz shined at the front of the grid, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton faced an unexpected problem. The English driver was ruled out of Q2 and will start the race from 11th place, his worst result in Melbourne for more than a decade. This surprise loss by Hamilton added an extra layer of drama to the qualifying session and promises to be an exciting race as he looks to recover and move through the pack.

In addition to the highlights in front of the net, there was plenty of action and competition around the field. Drivers such as Aston Martin Racing’s Fernando Alonso and Mercedes’ George Russell also put in strong performances in the top ten.

With the starting grid set, all teams and drivers are preparing for tomorrow’s race. With unpredictable weather and a challenging Melbourne circuit, anything can happen during the race. Formula 1 fans can expect an incredible display of skill, strategy and competition as drivers battle it out for the podium at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.
