Mercedes Addresses High-Speed Performance Challenges in Jeddah and Unveils Experimental Strategy

8 months ago By Sports Desk

During the Jeddah Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Mercedes team faced a major challenge with high-speed cornering performance. After a series of problems in the first race of the 2024 season, the team decided to address these issues head-on and announced an experimental strategy to deal with the situation.

Mercedes track engineering manager Andrew Shovlin explained that the team had identified a few reasons for the poor performance in the high-speed corners in Jeddah over the weekend. He pointed out that drivers’ lack of confidence in these corners and loss of race time were the main factors due to balance problems.

To address these issues, Mercedes plans to hold “tests” at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The tests include detailed information gathered from competitions and trials held not only in Jeddah but also in Bahrain. The team is committed to finding a solution that doesn’t compromise its strengths in other areas such as straightaway speed. Finding ways to improve high-speed cornering performance without sacrificing straight-line speed.

Shovlin stressed that Mercedes are aware of the need for major changes to challenge Red Bull for victory this year. He explained that the problem of exposure at high speed is a fundamental problem that needs to be looked at carefully. The team is committed to understanding the causes of these issues and implementing effective solutions as soon as possible.

What’s more, Shovlin emphasized that the team is unwilling to compromise overall performance after some improvements in high-speed corners. You want a balanced approach, considering all aspects of the car. With a method based on planning and data and testing, Mercedes is determined to overcome the challenges and race to the top of the podium.

The fans are eagerly waiting to see what improvements the team can make and how this will affect their performance in the upcoming tournaments. With a history of success and innovation, Mercedes is certainly ready to meet these challenges and return to winning ways.
