Renowned former Formula 1 driver Anthony Davidson has raised the intriguing possibility of Carlos Sainz joining Audi’s Formula 1 in 2026, hinting at a new phase in his career after leaving Ferrari. The uncertainty surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s future has fueled speculation.

Carlos Sainz’s reputation has grown considerably since he succeeded four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel in 2021. Sainz took his first F1 win at the 2022 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and remains the only Red Bull driver to win. Competition in Singapore in 2023.

Recent reports suggest there is a strong link between Sainz and Audi, who are set to take over Sauber’s current team when the new F1 rules come into force in 2026. Speaking about pre-season testing in Bahrain, Davidson suggested that Audi is the perfect place for Sainz.

“Apart from Red Bull, Ferrari were the only team to win a race last year and Carlos was the driver who made it happen,” said Davidson. “Carlos is an incredible professional. He always is, a solid driver. I think he’s very good in mixed conditions.”

Speculation about Sainz taking over at Audi has grown over the past 12 months, particularly with Saber taking control in the post-2026 scenario. Davidson said he believed it would be an ideal place for an experienced Spanish driver.

“I think it’s going to happen. I think it’s a great place for an experienced, professional driver like him to lead a new team,” Davidson commented on speculation about Sainz and Audi. It highlights the resilience of the Sabah team, internal changes and desire to make a mark in F1.

Davidson sees Sainz as a brilliant driver who at times manages his ambitions and balances, perhaps too much optimism. It highlights Sainz’s ability to stay involved in strategy and keep the team on the ground, as seen during his time at Ferrari.

While fans will feel the loss of Sainz from the Italian team, Davidson has accepted the inevitability of a name like Lewis Hamilton. However, the Spanish driver is being admired for his excellence and ability to contribute, making him a worthy choice for Audi’s 2026 F1 start.

As F1 awaits these developments, the prospect of Carlos Sainz becoming the face of Audi at the highest level of motorsport is growing, raising expectations of a new era in the talented Spaniard’s career.
