FIA Sanctions Sergio Pérez After F1 Race In Singapore

1 years ago By Sports Desk

In the aftermath of the action-packed Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has imposed sanctions on Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez for his involvement in a collision with Alex Albon during the race. The incident has left both fans and the FIA scrutineers debating Pérez’s driving conduct.

The Desperate Overtaking Attempt

Sergio Pérez, known for his aggressive driving style, had a challenging race in Singapore, starting from 13th on the grid. In his determination to make up positions, Pérez became embroiled in two separate incidents with Alex Albon, who was driving for Williams. Albon did not hold back his frustration, expressing his displeasure with Pérez’s driving as “f*****g dirty.”

FIA’s Verdict on Pérez’s Move

The FIA, as the governing body of Formula 1, closely reviewed the incident between Pérez and Albon. Their assessment of Pérez’s overtaking maneuver into Turn 13 characterized it as an “optimistic late maneuver” that could be compared to ‘diving in.’ The FIA further concluded that Albon had limited options to avoid the collision, which left both drivers shaken.

Pérez’s Penalty and Its Impact

The FIA handed down a five-second penalty to Sergio Pérez and added a point to his racing license. However, this penalty did not affect Pérez’s final race position. He ultimately finished the race in eighth place, while AlphaTauri’s Liam Lawson trailed behind in ninth, 18 seconds adrift.

Frustration for Albon

For Alex Albon, the penalty provided little solace. He had been on course for a potential points finish before the collision with Pérez drastically altered his race. The incident forced Albon off track, causing him to lose valuable positions and ending his race in 11th place.

Albon’s Account of the Incident

After the race, Albon shared his perspective, expressing his disappointment over the outcome. He described how he was running in ninth place, poised to overtake Liam Lawson for eighth, when Pérez executed the dive-bomb maneuver into Turn 13. The collision with Pérez resulted in Albon’s car veering off-track, derailing his hopes of scoring points in Singapore.

The clash between Sergio Pérez and Alex Albon during the Singapore Grand Prix has raised questions about the boundaries of aggressive driving in Formula 1. While Pérez faced penalties from the FIA, the incident’s impact on Albon’s race remains a focal point of discussion. As the Formula 1 season progresses, fans and experts will undoubtedly keep a close eye on how these incidents influence the ongoing championship battles.
